Introduced back in the Windows XP era to facilitate software installations from CD-ROM media for non-technical computer users, the Autorun feature has rapidly become the infection vector of choice for cyber-criminals.
The USB immunizer is Bitdefender's response to this growing issue.
It disables autorun-related threats before they access the computer. Once installed, it constantly watches for newly inserted USB storage devices and immunizes them on the fly. If you accidentally plug in an infected USB drive that has not been immunized, the computer will not auto-execute the piece of malware located on the USB storage device.

What effect does this immunizer have on legit autorun.inf files. I use these freguently on both USB and CD to create my own installation disks for re-installing software during a rebuild; including drivers.

Hello, Noel. The USB Immunizer replaces any autorun file on the drive with a special one that can’t be deleted or modified by malware anymore. If you plan to to use your own autorun.inf file, then we’d recommend that you don’t immunize the drive, as you’ll lose your original file. Unfortunately, this is the only available approach to mitigate the effect of autorun malware.

Simply you may create a directory with name autorun.inf on your usb drive and you’ll be protected. Viruses does not bother to remove the directory then to copy themselves.

the tool have big problem because tool create folder named Autorun.inf in USB and this folder can be deleted !!!
the tool create folder named (autorun.inf) and when user plug usb into infected PC virus can’t write its owen autorun.inf file because tool create folder with the same name
but if virus check if there is file named (autorun.inf) in USB and delete it then it can create its autorun.inf file in USB and then infect other PC

The weakest link of such tools is the fact that nothing can ever prevent any autorun.inf (including the one created with this program) from being renamed and then new autorun.inf (virus/trojan/worm/whatever) will be copied to your USB. Hello, John Doe. Have you read the EULA that displays when you first launch the BitDefender USB Immunizer? If so, you would have seen that the Immunizer can’t be used if you are already having a custom autorun.inf file which you would like to keep (such as U3 auto-launchers, PortableApps or boot drives).
@Yury: Yes, Yury, it works. You won’t be able to delete, rename or otherwise remove the autorun.inf file IF and only IF you use FAT32 or NTFS. On FAT12 or FAT 16 you might be able to remove the file. Try it and see for yourself

Okay, I have downloaded it, I click on the Download button, and extracted it, RUN the stand alone application and I can not understand a thing what it says. The language is not English by default.
Just installed the exe from a PcPlus DVD. When running an error message reads: “Cannot find http://immunizer.bitdefender.com/media/banners/index.php. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct. I am connected to the Internet with broadband working perfectly. Please advise thanks!
@Claudio: there is something that probably is blocking access to the BitDefender website. It might be a Trojan, or your firewall. But don’t worry, even with this error, you’d still be able to use the Immunizer, but you won’t be able to see the banner.
@LK: The application looks for the Location setting in Control Panel -> Region and Language. Make sure you have US or UK entered as default location and restart the tool. It will automatically switch to English.
